To break into the sketchbook I sewed across the blank pages with a sewing machine and red thread. I wanted to limit the materials for the artwork, so I chose black Sumi-e ink. Later I added touches of color with opaque markers. The images were drawn from a sculpture that my 7 year old son made by nailing into a series of wooden boards and attaching the boards together with colorful bits of wire.
