Since 2001, Debbie Clapper has worked to bring a new perspective to the industry of art and design by developing drawings that both benefit the client and engage the viewer in a thought-provoking dance of point and counterpoint via her studio gneural. Based in the medium of original patterns, typographics and illustrations, Clapper brings design to a new relevance in modern society, whether through posters, socks, pillowcases or phone cases. This marriage of the ethereal with the everyday object gives those who experience her designs the opportunity to connect with the world and themselves in a deeper way, as well as simply enjoying the visual feast of lines and color.
Clapper’s technique ranges from hand-drawn to digital artwork with the goal of breaking out of the need for perceived perfection in order to give way to the beauty that is found in realistic designs. Her hand-drawn work is done without the aid of a ruler, allowing her pieces to better reflect the immediate power of the idea conveyed rather than fitting into a preconceived notion of what a piece “should” look like.
