I am a mixed-media artist, more or less self-taught. I tend to be drawn by materials, colours, textures and as I put them together some direction ensues, as well as themes (sometimes). I am obsessed with maps, whether real or imaginary, factual or conceptual. The book in itself is physically a finite journey, however, its contents infinite as it is determined by the individual 'reading' it, their interpretation. The experience was uplifting and fun and when I sent it off to Brooklyn, it was like my son waving as he left home for the world. I am motivated by interactions and relations between people, places and object, how they relate to each other (or not) as well as the wider world and intangibles of existence. Inevitably, humour sneaks into a lot of my work; the ability to laugh and not take ourselves too seriously is fundamental to me and I think/hope permeates my work.
