I haven’t drawn anything substantial in almost 30 years. I realized, after a difficult period in my life, that creating something is the best way for me to focus, and process. I know that this is not a unique experience to many. I didn’t know that I could actually fill this book, but I wanted to try. And I did it. This sketchbook made me realize where my passion lies - bright colors, strong lines, the idea of movement. I love swirls, the suggestion of flames, and doodling. I feel drawn to nature, and the everyday. The backyard birch stand, a game to pass the time, the local coffee shop. I enjoy the line work of agates, and the movement of a phoenix. One thing I discovered is that I also enjoy doodling, which I had never really done. These are all reflected in my work. As a result of this project, I have begun creating larger pieces. I’m excited to see where I go from here.
