I have been traveling since the age of 1, drawing since the age of 4, and making sketchbooks since the age of 7 (a project my brother and I named, “Describe”). When I am idle, I sit and observe what is around me, then I sketch it with pen or pencil or paint it with watercolors. I try to design the page, but usually just start with what catches my eye and go from there. Sketchbooks are the most raw form of visual art and I put stickers on them from the items that are around me, such as restaurant labels, receipts, beer labels, or found stickers. The stickers provide context clues for the countries, people, and items I have captured in the sketchbook. What is not included in my sketchbooks are the sounds, aromas, feelings of being cold, hot or wet from rain, and other experiences, such as macaque monkeys peering over my shoulder to see what I am doing or to see if they can snatch my snack! I am proud to contribute to this project and hope to visit the other sketchbooks who belong to people who are contributing to the analog preservation of our culture, creativity, and humanity.
