When I was young, Vanessa was an uncommon name. They never said my name when looking through the magic mirror at the end of Romper Room and, as a kid, I never found my name imprinted on a kitschy souvenir. When I was 18, my friend Cheryl wrote a poem for me and told me Vanessa means butterfly. I notice butterflies and I marvel at their beauty and resilience. And, I (sometimes) remember that is also me. Thank you for checking out my sketchbook and be sure to read Cheryl's poem to me on the last page. My art is both a meditative practice that allows my busy mind to relax and a journey where I allow myself to explore creativity in a way that is different than most of the designs I produce for clients.
