I’m an artist living in Central Oregon in the shadow of the Three Sisters Mountains (part of the Cascade Range). I live on a cattle and hay ranch and the mountains are the backdrop to my life.
My daughter purchased the Sketchbook for me for Christmas this year and it has filled me with joy every morning as I record the “neighbors” that I encounter. If I lived in the city you might see more street scenes and people...but out here on the ranch my neighbors are deer, wild turkeys, geese, jack rabbits and coyotes. I sketched them in pencil and pen and added quick brush strokes of color.
I had to include our ranch animals too... barn cats and horses and cows that you never get to know very well but are around all the time.
My work is my art but this project was more like a journal... I like going back over it to see my thoughts and daily routine represented in quick line —like a brief conversation with myself every day.
SInce the project is based in New York... I thought the viewers might like a little insight into life in the high desert of Central Oregon... the crazy wild turkeys who bust into the chicken coop to get free food, the ever present gophers who pester us with their holes and eating the pasture from the roots up.
Thanks for letting me have a voice in this huge project. I truly appreciate the opportunity and am grateful for my daughter, Erin , who made this possible.
