I live and work in San Jose, California and I'm a little obsessed with the Nextdoor app. Nextdoor is an online forum where individuals living within a neighborhood boundary can join a particular group, discussing things they think are relevant to their "neighbors" or neighborhood.
I'm fascinated by the disconnection between what people say to each other online versus what they would say in person, especially considering that they could be rubbing elbows at the shopping center, gas station, or any other public place! It's also a place where people express concern about others in their neighborhood without ever receiving the closure an in-person encounter would provide.
My sketchbook is a collage using Next-door conversations from my local group with a wide variety of images. I hope the experience reflects the randomness, along with the humanity and outsized emotions that characterize this platform.
