I am an academic who studies East Asian literature. I was intrigued with the idea of telling a wordless story. I meet with a friend to draw each week and decided to use that time to fill my sketchbook. I had no idea where the story was going when I began but just let things happen as I approached each page. When I got through the first third of the book I had to plan a little more carefully where the story was going. While I was chatting, drinking coffee and drawing, a mistake I made unintentionally took the story in a direction I had not planned for and then had to scramble to devise a new narrative turn. I usually have only a vague idea of what I'm going to draw and let my hand guide me. I would never have delved into making this little book if not for the Sketchbook Project. I have loved making the book and plan to do more. the style is a bit inconsistent, but it is, after all, just a sketch! I used a technical pen and colored pencils.
