These faces were sketched using ink, both waterproof and water soluble, on mixed media paper. The sketches were cut out and glued onto black card stock. The faces on the tan toned paper are my interpretations of photos of inmates of an insane asylum in the 1880’s. The diagnosis under each face is the actual diagnosis given to that individual. The faces on the white paper are mostly taken from the Sktchy website and the diagnoses are fictional.
I love sketching faces. I don’t care if they look like a realistic rendering of the person I’m sketching as long as they look like they could possibly be someone, somewhere. And then, I love finding quotes that seem to work with each face. That can take hours but I find it relaxing and rewarding.
