I describe my style of painting as contemporary Abstract/Pop Art, I love colour, so my pieces are bright and bold. Pop art was an art movement that emerged in the 50's in Britain and 60's in USA, think Andy Warhol, It simplifies a subject allowing greater artist interpretation. I have just finished a "Series of Women", 10 large canvas', 24"x24", using bold and simplified forms to portrait the emotions and presents of a female. When painting these pieces I sketched first and then surrounded them with pools of bright colour, the skin tones are made up of lots of colours, we certainly are not portrait pink. My abstracts are created by painting straight from the tube and allowing the paint to dictate where the finished painting goes. I have participated in many shows, group and solo throughout Canada. I am British/Canadian and my humour reflects this, I love Faulty Towers and Monty Python. Winter months I am found in foreign lands, last year Ecuador, this Mexico, different cultures add a new diversity to my art. Spring, Summer, Fall are spent in my ocean front studio on the south shore. I am a messy painter and as my husband says I get some paint on the floor and a lot on me and occasionally it makes it onto the canvas. My studio is eclectic, there you will find me painting/teaching and rocking out to tunes full volume. I teach art and encourage my students to find their own style through exploring and having fun.. Examples of my work are on my website @ www.secretreddoorstudio.com.
