Thankfully, I have been lucky in my life to visit some beautiful beaches. On cloudy cold days I reminisce the feel of hot sand under my feet, the bump of a wave or a relaxing float when the water is calm. The day I started my sketchbook it was cloudy and bitterly cold so I sought warmth and inspiration in my collection of coastal photos. I removed pages from my sketchbook and joined them together to create a foldout style book which has resulted in less images. Hopefully my drawings can evoke a warm or happy memory for the viewer.
For this work I have just used colored pencil and Copic pens. The cover is a photograph printed on copy paper in black and white which I thought was a good contrast to the inside images. I removed the pages from my sketchbook and joined them together to create a foldout style book which has resulted in less images.
I am currently studying part time for a Diploma in Visual Arts. Most of my work is done in pencil, ink and acrylic but currently I am enjoying working in collage and printmaking. A lot of my inspiration comes from the landscapes around me either locally, interstate or overseas. Road trips are always spent with my camera on my knee as I constantly see something I would like to paint, draw or express in my next work.
Participating in the Sketchbook Project has been a fulfilling experience to create a small series of drawings which can be shared within a community around the world. I am looking forward to the challenge of filling my next sketchbook in a different medium and approach.
To anyone procrastinating about registering for the Skecthbook Project, I encourage you to participate and share your story with so many others from around the globe.
