Although, I intended to sketch in ink this year, I found myself totally obsessed with indigo dye and shibori pattern making. I have been obsessed with it for several years but felt sure that I could find the time to return to drawing. Every now and then the empty sketchbook would rise to the surface of my brain and as I would try to get inspired, I'd find myself drawn back to my dye vat. Eventually, I realized that the patterns I had been testing on different fabrics were my sketches. I am mostly self taught and am constantly trying new patterns and fabrics. Indigo has a magic to it that no other medium does for me. It requires full participation and a balance between perfectionism and constant letting go of control. I keep my hands blue, teach classes and sell my dyed fabric, clothes and accessories in Madison WI.
