It’s been awhile, so the sketchbook project inspired the practice and the process of creating. Selecting the texture theme was at first a statement of identity; people are a myriad of things. It became a surreal exploration of digging deeper; inspired by forms from Lee Bontecou, among others. After the initial inspiration of her organic shapes and dimensionalality, not just in her sculptural wall pieces but also her sketches, I dove into the forms that resonated with me. The malleable forms, bubbling and branching to the surface. The expressions are personal, emotional. My day-to-day being follows strict and square methods, problem solving, rationalization and right-brained activities. The sketches bring you under the hard shell.
