I am a writer and an art director - I develop slide decks for consumer research outcomes in my day job. I started doing little drawings as a challenge to myself. My daughters encouraged me - - one suggested that I draw one or two a week and post them on Instagram (I've posted 303 little drawings so far) - - the other gave me The Sketchbook Project for Christmas (challenging me to 'put it out there' in a new way). I am grateful for their love and support <3
The sketchbook project was a HUGE challenge, as I had a very hard time deciding what my approach would be. Should I plan it out or just let it happen? Tell a story, or present individual images? Color/no color? ... I changed out the pages 3 times (yikes).
I think the stage of the Sketchbook process I actually liked the best was when the new, fresh, smooth Bristol pages were blank and full of both the pressure and freedom of the wonderful, spontaneous potential to come. I now realize that this insight reflects my approach to life as well - - that every day/minute is a fresh, new opportunity to scan and respond to the world around you - - a blank slate upon which we can move our energy forward and create anything we desire.
My next goal for the little Black Pen White Paper drawings is to blow them up (4' X 4' or larger) and feature them in a large white exhibit space along with a tiny, identical scale model of the space with the drawings at actual size.
