i am a professor of couple and family therapy and a yoga teacher. i am fascinated with the journeys we take in finding ourselves, finding love, and then putting it all together or tearing it all apart. i work in the field promoting optimum personal development using creativity/art/symbol to go beyond talk therapy and journaling. this sketchbook took me on a journey imagining us brave and alone on the hunt for self, and for connection-i viewed this journey from the lens of cupid-watching us experiencing and learning, while he tries to guide us indirectly. i found myself collecting&using found objects, ephmera, materials and experiences from my work as a therapist and yoga teacher and my regular daily life-observing and experiencing love for self, other and what gets in the way. The collected ephemera, lecture notes, clinical notes(none used in this project), journal entries gave me direction for the journey like cupid reviewing everything he had picked up that we had thrown away putting it all out on his bed and seeing how it all connected...the sketchbook made its own sense by the end of it and is about connecting all the pieces that make us-US and make us whole...and how that opens the doors of self love. The cover is a map...and that sends you into the sketchbook to make sense of your own journey. be well-xo
