I’ve always been fascinated by the human body. I'm drawn to the dualities of strength and fragility contained within us: the remarkable ability the body has to adapt, coupled with the consequences of aging or disability, brings with it changing perceptions to one’s experience and sense of self. Taking my own body and personal history as impetus, my sketchbook explores the landscape of body and brain through drawing, etching and analogue photography. The imagery, a continuation of my work as a whole, is influenced by the collection of medical images gathered from my own health scrutinies, as well as self portraits I've made throughout my practice as an artist. In distilling my ideas into book form, I’ve been particularly struck by recurring rhythms and patterns found in our physical environment echoing within our own bodies, inescapably entwining and connecting each of us to a wider macrocosm of existence and experience.
