I am a student artist at the University of South Dakota, pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting. Many sketches focus on human interaction at any local coffee shop I am at for the day. "People watching" is such a fascinating concept, and it is interesting how you can create assumptions or new narratives about strangers, or even friends, as you draw them. What defines a person? What do they mean to you? Do you have to know them in order for them to be real to you? The person next to you has the same complexity as you do. I am motivated by the Butterfly Effect. Actions have meaning and your environment and who you allow yourself to notice, as well as who you allow to recognize that you notice them can define a moment in time, an existence. Loss, nostalgia, and curiosity are both present in this sketchbook and all wrapped "Into Being" who we are.
