I've been drawing as long as I can remember, and it is my passion. I also adore a wee bitty of a pattern and have created many designs which I sell through Spoonflower.com - look me up - moirarae. Rae is my middle name.
My sketchbook arrived in November and I had no idea where to start so I doodled a leaf pattern using a Posca pen inside the cover... I just thought "endpapers".
It grew into a small series of leaf inspired designs. I'm particularly pleased with the first page which just grew from a splodge of coloured scribble into leaves and strange square petalled flowers. It was a purely serendipitous process. Love that word!
Some of the pages were a struggle - draw, paint, scrape back and start again or paintover and scrape back to the first draft.
The title says just what it is - A new leaf - the beginning of a new year and working in a way I don't usually work in a sketchbook. My usual modus operandi is line work adding notes about colour or design and then working up to a design ...this time I just went for it!
