I carried this book with me everywhere I went during the months of January and February 2018. I sketched on my nature walks, in the garden outside my figure drawing class, on the sidewalks of urban places, and in the campgrounds of Yosemite in winter. I tried to capture the live plants in each of these places using patterns of marks to convey the textures of each type of plant. This is very different from my normal style of using color primarily. Recovery of the spontaneity that was lost and trained out of me early in life is the motivator for my art and creative endeavors. So this approach -- just following me in my daily life -- is reflected in this sketchbook. Also, the haiku I added several months later, reflecting back on the moments I captured in drawing. I love combining image and text in my visual art in whatever way I can.
