My name is Andrea Palma, and I live in the Tampa Bay area of Florida. I work as a Medical Technologist, which means I analyze lab work in a hospital. As much as I love science, I have always had a passion for art, especially drawing and painting. My hobby stagnated after high school, and then took off again when my youngest child started kindergarten and I finally had a little free time. I've been extremely creatively active for the past 7 years or so, drawing, painting, carving rubber stamps and experimenting with mixed media. However, I have come to realize that watercolor and capturing everyday life in a fresh and lively way is my favorite. Taking a sketchbook wherever I go, helps me to have little moments of time to sketch and notice things in entirely new ways.
When I started this book, I was a bit worried that I wouldn't finish it, or that I would be bogged down by a theme. So I chose "No Worries" as my theme, so as to sketch and paint whatever and whenever the mood struck me, and to let go of any expectations. I started the book in January 2018, and right away fell into a sort of spell whenever I would go out to sketch. Most of the sketches were from the beach and parks within 20 miles of my home near Tampa Bay, Florida. I have included places such as Tarpon Springs sponge docks, the Singing Bok Tower in Lake Wales, Dunedin Causeway, Sand Key Beach scenes, a John Chesnut Park oak tree with azaleas in bloom, Tampa Bay Downs Racetrack, a funky Barbeque pit stop in Lutz, and 2 views of lovely artsy St Petersburg, Florida. One morning, while recovering from cataract surgery, I even sketched my beloved coffee maker and coffee cup! I hope you enjoy seeing the world, the way I do. Some day, I hope to publish a full sketchbook of many aspects of my life, so this was very good practice, and gives me incentive to continue. I would really welcome comments and happy to answer questions.
