I'm an artist, educator and woods walker. As a workshop and retreat facilitator I develop theme based programs and hands-on experiences around creativity & spirituality. As an artist, I am inspired by nature in all its amazing beauty and diversity. One of my passions is trees and their leaves, often using them in my artwork. The theme "Textures" was perfect for this sketchbook, since the Sketchbook Project would not exist without trees for its paper, I wanted to honor them as the subject matter. My goal was to use a wide variety of textural art techniques and mediums throughout the booklet. Printing, collage and rubbings lend themselves to both a visual and tactile expression. Almost all the materials are reused and adapted/expanded from my stash of art images and/or recycled hand made papers. As I began to map out what would be on each page I wanted every two to be in dialog with each other, a kind of conversation. Also wanting to explore a sense of childlike wonder and creativity as each page-pairs would be unique and hopefully a fun surprise as you turn the pages. While I create and fill my own art journals on a regular basis, this project was deeply fulfilling and very enjoyable. And I feel a piece of me has returned to and resides now in the city of my birth. Thank you for the opportunity to share my art-self with you.
