I am an artist from Guadeloupe (West Indies) living in Ireland for most than 20 years.
I shared this project with my son, Hamilton who is 10 years and decided to write a story related to the slavery view by the eyes of a child. For him, it was a process of writing by which he was able to question his identity.
For the last 5 months he built his research, I stay in the shadow and support his decision making. The lay out of the book is his choice. I was very please to see him develop in motivation and dedication to meet the target. The more pages were filling out; his senses of ownership grow too.
For my part, I decided to keep the drawing part as symbolic as possible with abstract shape and in black and white captured in a circle shape. I see the circle as reunification shape in which everything begin with potential.
This experience was a great time with my son and shared my passion with him.
I hope he will treasure this book.
