I experimented with methods of improvised sketching, letting the pencil move, finding shapes and patterns and recreating or subtly altering each iteration. I focused on allowing the drawing to present itself as the pencil moved while not picking up the point until the sketch felt complete. After penciling, I used the pen to envision what the shapes would become using varying line weights and utilizing dashed lines to indicated hidden shapes, shadows and depth . . . all the sketches were created while listening to music . . . so the influence of the beats, rhythms and melodies all played a part in creating the improvised pieces . . . jazz was certainly an inspiration.
