This is my first time participating in the Sketchbook Project!
I have been fairly creative and artistic for most of my life; my mum and grandad are both talented artists and encouraged the development of my own abilities from a young age.
My sketchbook evolved from a simple record of ocean-dwelling creatures into the mismash of scenes, materials, and species that it is today.
I knew from the start that I wanted to do something to raise awareness of the plight of the oceans, and had plans to include statistics on plastic pollution and overfishing. In the end however I decided to just use a stark, blank page to highlight the contrast from the colourful pages before. The year 2048 is a fairly well-researched date for the oceans to be so depleted they will not recover.
I used a variety of materials and techniques including coloured pencil, paints, and glittery gel pen! I love the way it turned out and I hope that the people who look through my book will be able to see the evolution of my ideas through the pages.
