I went through the London Evening Standard looking for pictures of people, and stuck one on each double-page spread of the sketchbook. Then I went through the book imagining a scenario for each person. I've never tried this before but it was an effective technique for suggesting ideas by free association. I didn't work through the book methodically, but flicked backwards and forwards through the blank pages until an idea came. None of the drawings was planned, I just started drawing in ink and mostly it worked. On two pages I added more characters, and on one I stuck white paper over the original character because he didn't work with what I’d drawn. I got ten drawings done the first day, which was a bit too intense, and the next day was slower. The map at the front was drawn later. I'm sorry to part with this book really.
