I'm a big fan of using existing work to create new stories, narratives, art. In this case, I had an old copy of Ursula Schaeffler's THE THIEF AND THE BLUE ROSE--gorgeous illustrations with a lovely story. I borrowed illustrations and language from the book to create mostly digital collage, then printed this new story onto full-sheet labels to serve as the new pages in this sketchbook. I find inspiration in splashy colors, voluptuous fonts, bold language and unusual layouts. I create at least one "destoryed" book a year, and I'm happy to say this is my second completed book project in the past 3 months.
