Don’t Forget: just because it’s not forever, doesn’t mean it’s not important.
The best piece of life advice I’ve ever heard; it was passed along by a beloved friend over a delicious meal.
Though I work in a variety of mediums, drawing has taken up my life; always backed with a soundtrack and keeping my hands and mind steady.
I used to want to leave items that would last, standing the test of time. While living in Canada I was thinking in terms of hundreds of years, moving to Japan and Europe added thousands, and with Dinosaurs in the equation, millions more are included. Thus, It'd futile to be concerned about where my work would fit and I could just create freely. I decided I would draw daily if I could, wherever I was in the world.
New things surrounded me, but my home was always built with the same items and activities, steeped in nostalgia, my own and for times that preceded me.
Creating these works at the time, anchored adventures and settled me when I was restless.
This was the 2nd sketchbook started for this project. My first was lost in Glasgow, filled with drawings done from May-June, 2014 in England, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Berlin, Munich, Ljubljana, Milan, Lyon, Barcelona; I hope it found appreciative hands and not the bin.
This one was started at the end of July 2014 was made while travelling to San Francisco and Vancouver for adventuring and our record-shopping honeymoon. My husband makes several appearances. Marrying in Canada, we met while living in the UK, and have since moved to Barcelona.
With Justin Green and Carol Tyler being amongst my many art heroes, this work unapologetically is autobiographical; mistakes made and left on the page, layered attempts at recovery, resulting in truth.
I miss people, places, and times that weren’t meant to last forever.
