Most of these drawings just happened as I began to scribble. Animals, Places, and words that form my own private iconology and hopefully connect to others. Some of the images are corny, some sweet, some a bit odd. Often if I start to elaborate on a scribble it becomes its own theme and suddenly I have to do a painting or a print to fully resolve my idea. I try not to think too hard when I sketch because it stops me from the flow of images and ideas. Clearly I love animals as themselves and as metaphor for life's great mysteries. I also love the juxtaposition of unpredicted elements. The words are a new thing for me in this sketchbook and I really just wrote them as they came with little or no editing so the book is a little stream of consciousness and in that sense a real sketch book of ideas.
