I have been drawing similar pen and ink abstract drawings for over fifteen years. I
started out doodling on the margins of loose-leaf paper in middle school, eventually
transitioned to open white paper and in college had one drawing in the back of each
notebook that I labored over for an entire semester. I worked mostly in black and white
for over ten years and only recently explored new mediums and color forms. Over time
my fluidity with lines and shapes has grown stronger and my drawings have become
tighter and crisper. Inside the shifting shapes of my drawings, others see cities, people,
letters, worlds, Keith Harring-like images. I see the digressive thoughts tumbling through
my head and the varying emotions experienced over a number of days. My drawings are a way for me to translate thoughts, emotions and creative inspiration into something else entirely. I focus on small lines and shapes and eventually build something larger and more unified.
