This book was made during my time on exchange at the Rhode Island School of Design, USA. Included in the book are proofs from my lithography prints, sketches and thoughts from some of my travels, experiences and heartache while in the States. During this time a friend of mine back home passed away. The day this book was due to be sent off was the day of his funeral back in Canberra, Australia. Unable to be there, sending this book was my way of saying goodbye to him.
Since then my visual aesthetic has changed, yet my ideology still stays the same. I have always used art as a cathartic practice (as I did in this sketchbook with John's death and other difficult experiences), seeing emotion as one of the most important aspect of art. Whether it sparks happiness, sadness or laughter, if it makes you feel something it has achieved a great feat.
